Some Say Love...

Throughout the years, I have always turned to music whenever I have been trying to sort through my feelings about people, and specifically, about guys who I had crushes on. After I realized that there are other love songs besides ones by Taylor Swift, I discovered music by artists in a variety of genres that helped me realize what I want to have in a committed relationship. One of those songs is "Love and Affection," by Matt White, and my favorite quote from it is "I will offer you love and affection and all my warmth and protection. It will be you and I against the world." This illustrates for me the power of teamwork, because the artist describes a love in which two people are ready to work together to deal with whatever life throws their way. Another quality of love that I seek in a relationship is the desire of both people to help and be strong for each other, as shown in one of my favorite love songs, "This I Promise You," by 'NSYNC. The quote from that song that describes this type of commitment is, "When the visions around you, bring tears to your eyes and all that surrounds you, are secrets and lies. I'll be your strength, I'll give you hope." I have always loved Disney movies, and although I think that sometimes those movies portray a type of love that is unrealistic, a song from a Disney movie that describes a characteristic of love that I believe a relationship requires is "That's How You Know," from Enchanted. The song describes how someone should do little things regularly to show his or her loved one just how much he or she cares, and I think that making the time to do things like that helps to deepen the bond between two people. My second favorite love song is "Everything," by Michael Buble, and the song, especially the quote, "And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times, it's you, it's you, you make me sing," describes how important it is to be in a relationship with someone who you genuinely love spending time with and can make the events of everyday life, which are sometimes monotonous, into something special. What may possibly be my favorite love song, out of all the love songs I have heard before, is "Mirrors," by Justin Timberlake. He wrote the song as a tribute to his grandparents, and as a result, the song is a testament to love that stands the test of time, and that is the kind of love I am seeking in a committed relationship.

Although I believe that a person, if he or she is the right person, can almost perfectly complement the strengths and weaknesses of another person, I do not think that only one person in the entire world can do that for another person. Instead, there may be hundreds of people throughout the world who would be suited to one person. But a person cannot just find one of these people and then expect a fairy-tale ending, because all relationships need communication and sometimes hard work in order to thrive. When someone finds someone else who is well-suited to his or her personality, if that person does not take the time or effort to develop the relationship, then it can be expected to fail. Then, that person may keep looking for his or her soul mate, when, in reality, he or she had already found someone who he or she could have loved for all of his or her life. Sometimes, the person who you are meant to be with could have been standing in front of you the whole time.
